IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
PerioChip® should not be used in any patient who has a known sensitivity to chlorhexidine. Anaphylaxis, as well as serious allergic reactions, have been reported during postmarketing use with dental products containing chlorhexidine.

Placement

It takes less than 1 minute following SRP to insert PerioChip® (Chlorhexidine Gluconate) 2.5mg into the periodontal pocket

One PerioChip® is placed into each periodontal pocket of 5mm or more in depth. Up to eight PerioChip® may be inserted in a single visit. PerioChip® does not need to be removed since it biodegrades completely. In the unlikely event that the PerioChip® dislodges (in the two pivotal clinical trials, only 8 chips were reported lost), several actions are recommended, depending on the number of days after insertion of the PerioChip®. If the PerioChip® dislodges 7 days or more after placement, the dentist should consider the subject to have received a full course of treatment. If the PerioChip® dislodges within 48 hours after placement, a new PerioChip®should be inserted. If the PerioChip® dislodges more than 48 hours after placement, the dentist should not replace the PerioChip®, but simply reevaluate the patient after 3 months and insert a new PerioChip® if the pocket depth has not been reduced to less than 5 mm.

The following are the steps of administration:
01
Perform the scaling and/or root planing in order to remove the biofilm (chlorhexidine does not penetrate through the biofilm layer).
02
Measure the depth of the pocket using a probe (ensure that the pocket is a full 5 mm or greater).
03
Dry the dental pocket with an air syringe. Ensure that there is no bleeding (if there is, it may be stopped with a gauze pad), or any discharge of pus.
04
Gently open the individual foil pocket (blister package) on top of a gauze pad on the treatment tray.
05
Grasp the chip with cotton forceps, with the rounded edge of the chip facing the apex of the tooth.
06
Insert the PerioChip® into the dental pocket. Avoid applying pressure. Leave the cotton forceps inside the pocket for 2 seconds, to ensure that the chip has remained inside the pocket and did not come out with the cotton forceps. If the chip is sticking out, use a dental spatula to further insert the chip. Show your patient the location of the PerioChip® insertion using a mirror so that they know not to use dental floss at that location.
01
Perform the scaling and / or root planing.
02
Open individual foil pocket.
03
After completing standard SRP procedure, grasp PerioChip at the flat end with forceps.
04
IInsert PerioChip into the periodontal pocket, curved end first
05
Press PerioChip aipically to the base of the periodontal pocket.
06
Press PerioChip aipically to the base of the periodontal pocket.
